Chartered in October 1960, sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Guelph with Charter President - Eric Purves

President on surrender of Charter - Don Kidd 2005

Meeting place in 1960 was the Parkview Motel, moved to the Guelph Country Club and after several years moved to Paradise Gardens. From there went to Jolly's Restaurant on Woolwich Street. From Jolly's moved back to the Guelph Country Club.

Membership High 1992 - 53 members

Membership on surrender of charter - 21 with 12 active members

SERVICE PROJECTS

Cemented the river bottom for swimming area in Riverside Park.

In 1972, constructed the Royal City Kiwanis Band Shell in Riverside Park

Built washrooms in Kortright Waterfowl Park,on Niska Road, along with an Observation Tower.

Built fences and performed maintenance work at the Sunrise Equestrian Centre. Also sponsored the maintenance of a horse for several years

Sponsored the Can-Am Hockey Tournament held on the Christmas school break for several years.

Sponsored a Basketball Tournament for the high schools of Guelph and surrounding communities during the Christmas break.

Gathered up school supplies from the Staples Stores for needy children of Wellington county.

Started and sponsored the Reading Corner for Kids at the Health Centre

Provided a float for the Guelph Santa Claus Parade

Supported financially Block Parents

Financially helped Guelph Services of the Physically Disabled

Participated financially in special activities of the students at College Heights, in particular, the building of homes in Honduras.

Supported financially the Guelph General Hospital redevelopment

Over the years, we have financially helped individuals and families in need.

Provided Guelph Police Services with a powerful citizen band receiver unit to monitor C.B. emergency channel 9 emergency broadcasts

Involved in the financing of the construction of the Spurline ParticiPark

Participated in the Walking trail development along the Speed river, and provided both financial and physical assistance for the construction of Guelph's Lattice covered bridge.

Sponsorship of a student for the Forum for Young Canadians

Financial assistance to the 'Kids Can Play' organization, also supplied a member to their Board of Directors

Supported financially and provided labour to Hopewell Children's Homes

Supported financially 'Kids Line' Distress Centre

Kiwanis Music Festival - provided financial and operating support for the festival.

Bike-A-Thon

Provided an annual George King Memorial Scholarship

FUND RAISING

1968 and 2000 International Plowing Matches, sold tickets, supervised gates and directed parking.

Firewood sales (cutting and selling, deliveries)

Plus numerous other ventures, some in which we did not raise a lot money, but had fun doing the project.
