John A Korkoran played in Guelph’s Intercounty Junior baseball league as a member of the Leaflets - the championship team of 1949! The team was honoured with induction into the Guelph Sports Hall of Fame in 2013.

In order to support the sports scene in Guelph, specifically the baseball scene, Mr Korkoran donated $85,000 to the Kiwanis Club of Guelph to update some of the city’s baseball diamonds as well as the diamond at Belwood Camp and Lodge. All remaining funds were directed to a bursary which has, since its inception, provided two $1000 scholarships annually to young Guelphites involved in the Rep Baseball program of the Guelph Minor Baseball Association.

The community remains grateful to Mr Korkoran for his generosity, which makes the possibility of playing to one’s highest level a realistic opportunity for Guelph’s young athletes - regardless of financial situation.
