Remembrance Service

Our guest Speaker Captain Doug Tarrant

Our guest Speaker was remarkable 101 year old Captain Doug Tarrant who quite ably described his first experience while still a young British man entering WWII on September 1, 1939. He further described how he was a part of the evacuation of 300,000 allied solders from Dunkirk. In his closing, he very proudly announced that he is now a Canadian citizen.

Pres. Janice opened the Remembrance Service meeting and welcomed nearly 70 people! The largest contingent was the Grade 5 class from Central Public School, along with many friends of Kiwanis.

This enthusiastic choir sang a song, one of the students read a poem and then they offered a second song, their version of Leonard Cohens' Hallelujah to close. Very moving.

Sincere thanks are due to all those who took part in this very touching program, and to Past Pres. Mike MacIntyre for so skillfully pulling together such a striking way to mark this important occasion.
