The Guelph Sports Hall of Fame is a non-profit organization that recognizes and honours the achievements of Guelph individuals and teams who have attained prominence and distinction in any field of sport, and who have made a major contribution to the development and advancement of sports in Guelph.
The Guelph Sports Hall of Fame was established by the City of Guelph and the Kiwanis Club of Guelph in 1992 and through the annual sports celebrity dinner we are able to fund raise money to make this possible.
And now, it’s that time of the year were your participation help us make a difference in our community.
The 25th Annual Kiwanis Sports Celebrity dinner will be held this October 26th at the Guelph Palace Banquet Hall and we’ll have the honour to have the presence of New York Islanders legendary goalie, Billy Smith.

Biography
William John Smith a retired professional ice hockey goaltender better known as Billy Smith born on December 12. Billy Smith is best known for winning four Stanley Cups with the New York Islanders and being the first goalie to be credited with a goal.
Achievements:
- Calder Cup championship in 1971.
- Played in 1978 NHL All-Star Game.
- Selected to the NHL First All-Star Game in 1982.
- Conn Smythe Trophy winner 1983.
- Vezina Trophy winner in 1983.
- William M. Jennings Trophy winner in 1983 (shared with Roland Melanson).
- Stanley Cup championship in 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983.
- First NHL goalie to be credited with a goal in 1979.
- Inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1993.
- His #3 jersey was retired by the New York Islanders on February 20, 1993.
- In 1998, he was ranked number 80 on The Hockey News list of the 100 Greatest Hockey Players.*
